The theory test exists in English
The DGT offers the theory exam in several languages, English included, throughout Spain. It's the same exam: 30 questions from the official bank, 30 minutes, a maximum of 3 mistakes — only the on-screen language changes. You select it when the application is registered (your school ticks the box, or you do if you apply independently).
What to know before you book
- The practical doesn't change: the circulation test runs in Spanish, with simple examiner instructions (turn, change direction, park). Basic Spanish is enough, and your instructor will have drilled them hundreds of times.
- Official translations are literal: some translated questions read stiffer than the original. The fix is to practise in English on the official format — including the full DGT theory in English — not study in Spanish and sit the exam in English.
- The numbers don't care about language: 50.5% of theory candidates fail. Practising in your exam's language is the cheapest way to stay out of that statistic.
TraficoTest is the only platform with 100% of the tests, theory and interface in English and Spanish — same account, same progress. Practise in the language of your exam.
🇬🇧 Try a DGT test in EnglishRequirements and process (summary)
The process is identical to any candidate's: a psychotechnical certificate from a recognised medical centre, the 2.1 fee (€94.05, two attempts), the application stating your language, and a slot. As a foreign resident you'll need your NIE and proof of residence. Results are checked the same way: the DGT sede or the Mi DGT app.
Frequently asked questions ❓
Can I take the Spanish driving test in English?
Yes. The DGT theory test is available in English throughout Spain: the same 30 official questions, 30 minutes, maximum 3 mistakes. You request it when registering for the exam.
Is the practical exam in English too?
No: the circulation test runs in Spanish, with simple examiner instructions (turn, park, change direction). A basic level is enough.
Where can I practise DGT tests in English?
On TraficoTest (traficotest.es/en): the whole platform — tests, theory and interface — exists 100% in English and Spanish, with the same up-to-date official-format question bank.
Is the exam harder in English?
The content is identical, but the official translations are literal and can read stiffly. That's why it pays to practise directly in English with official-format questions rather than studying in one language and testing in another.
